Environmental Controls Technology

A two-year career and technical education program designed to provide students with hands-on skills and a career in their field. Students will participate in leadership, citizenship, and cooperation activities.

The junior year focuses on basic electricity, gas and electric heating, the refrigeration cycle, brazing/soldering, air conditioning and troubleshooting skills. The students are also taught the importance of safety, good work ethic, and customer relations.

The senior year builds upon skills acquired during the junior year with a greater emphasis on safety, brazing/soldering, troubleshooting, system design, and installation. Students have the opportunity to participate in on-the-job training. They are also prepared for the EPA Refrigerant Handling Exam as well as the American Refrigeration Institute's Industry Competency Exam.

Lab Activities May Include:
  • Troubleshooting Gas and Electric Furnaces
  • Preventative Maintenance
  • Service of a Heat Pump System
  • Install Air Distribution Systems
  • OSHA training
  • Green energy and heating technologies
  • Refrigeration systems
