Academics at the Pike County Career Technology Center

Students attending the Pike County Career Technology C enter enroll in various academic classes. All students are required to take English III and English IV. Each student is also assigned a math, science, or American history/government class depending upon their credit status from their home high school. Students also have the opportunity to receive intervention in all areas covered on the Ohio Graduation Test. A new program offered this year is entitled ‘’My Reading Coach’’. All students are offered sufficient credit opportunities to meet credit requirements as established by their home schools and the Ohio Department of Education.

English III and English IVare both required classes for graduation by the local districts as well as the Ohio Department of Education. Each course provides various learning opportunities for students who wish to immediately enter the work force, or for those who wish to further their education.

American history/government is offered to any junior or senior level student needing to meet a social studies requirement for graduation . These students learn how society and government coexist as well as understanding how the Constitution impacts their everyday lives.

Science courses include basic Earth science as well as Advanced Biology and physics. Students may enroll in these courses their junior or senior year.

Math courses vary from Algebra I and Algebra II to geometry, trigonometry, and pre calculus. Based upon previous transcripts and courses taken, students are placed in the appropriate math section.

As all students are required to earn a passing grade on the Ohio Graduation Test, various intervention choices are also offered at the Pike County Career Center. All students needing to pass this test are required to attend classes dealing with their particular area of academic concern.

Anew program in place at The Pike County Career Center is entitled ‘’My Reading Coach.’’ At the beginning of both the junior and senior years all students take the Stanford Diagnostic Reading and Math tests. Students whose test scores reflect challenges with reading may be asked to join this program.

All academic classes at the Pike County Career Center provide challenging assignments for students regardless of their previous backgrounds. Courses are presented in such a way as to relate each academic class to real world situations as well as prepare students to continue their education elsewhere. Academics are a vital and integral part of the Pike County Career Center.
