Those visiting the Pike County Career Technology Center (CTC) will now once again see road signs commemorating school wins in competitions from the year 1969 to 2007.
The original Road of Champions, which was removed several years ago for construction, was recently replaced, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Wednesday to celebrate the efforts of those who made it possible.
The project to replace the green and white road signs was headed up by CTC Heating and Cooling Instructor Mike Carter’s American Spirit team and much of the sign replacement was completed by students in the heating and cooling program.
“We’re glad to have our Road of Champions back,” said Carter. “I missed it, but I didn’t know how much other people missed it until people in the community mentioned it.”
Carter thanked his team for making sure the job was done well. One of the things that is different about the new sign is that they now have logos for different vocational education organizations at the top of them.
“I can’t tell you how hard they worked to make sure this was just right,” he said.
He also commented that he was happy with the job the heating and cooling team did on placing the signs.
“They did a super job’” he said.
Carter expressed his appreciation to the CTC board members and the school administration for their help and support for the project.
“I want to thank Mike and the students for their hard work,” said CTC Superintendent Steve Martin. “It’s kind of like seeing an old friend again.”
In addition to Carter, CTC students and Martin, Wednesday’s ribbon cutting was attended by Pike county auditor Ted Wheeler, Pike county recorder Misty Brewster, CTC Director Gary Robinson and Pike County Commissioners Harry Rider, teddy West and Blain Beekman.
CTC Board of Education President Ron Dixon and board members Sharon Manson and Greg Fout were on hand to cut the ribbon along with Carter.
Robinson said that the Road of Champions is a good way to sum up the mission of the school.
“We take children and make them into champions,” he said.
