Licensed Practical Nurse

Scioto County Career Technical Center Licensed Practical Nursing Program held at the Pike CTC.

The Practical Nursing Program is a 1 year full-time course of study for adults. The program consists of three sequential terms which progress from basic to more complex skills. The program is designed to help the student to acquire the attitudes, skills and knowledge essential to the role of a competent practical nurse. The focus is on holistic nursing care, which requires the application of basic knowledge of the biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences. The practical nurse functions at the direction of a licensed physician, chiropractor, dentist, podiatrist, optometrist, or registered nurse.

Consists of classroom instruction, skills lab instruction/practice, and supervised clinical experiences in accredited hospital, long term care facilities, and other health care settings.

The purpose of the program is to prepare the completer to be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nursing.  Due to Board of Nursing requirements, successful completion of the program does not guarantee eligibility to take the licensure examination.  Available Certifications:  First Aid/CPR.

Available Licensure:  Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

1350 hours; M-F





Truck Driving Academy

Southern State Community College Truck Driving Academy held at Pike CTC.

The Truck Driving Academy starts driving classes once a month. Please contact us for official dates or other info. The CDL school offers accelerated training that encompasses the wide variety of vehicle and truck and trailer combinations on the road today. The program will be divided between classroom and hands-on driver training, covering everything from paperwork to backing, turning, and shifting on our closed course to complex maneuvers through city streets, but we’ll take it all one step at a time, always making sure that you’re ready before you progress to the next level.

Portsmouth Electrical JATC – Journeyman Wireman Apprenticeship

Journeyman Wireman Apprenticeship held at Pike CTC.

The apprentice learns the skills of the trade through on the job training, working alongside an experienced journeyman who passes on the skills that he or she has learned over the years. In addition to the on the job training, the apprentice receives related classroom instruction that produces competency and pride that leads to becoming a true craftsman.

Another true advantage to apprenticeship is you earn while you learn. Apprentices start earning a livable wage as soon as they start working. They receive pay advancements throughout their apprenticeship based on performance.

The Portsmouth JATC Electrical Training Center offers a five-year apprenticeship program that includes training for commercial and industrial; teledata; and residential markets.
