Hospitality & Facility Care

Welcome to the Hospitality and Facility Care Program! This program is designed to train CTC students in the following areas throughout the school year:

  • Sanitation procedures and good personal hygiene

  • Safety procedures in the operation of housekeeping equipment

  • Safety procedures in the use of housekeeping supplies and chemicals

  • Laundering, organizing, and issuing student uniforms and clothing care

  • Laundering and inventorying of bed, bath, kitchen, and table linens

  • Setting up and breaking down for banquets

  • Setting formal place settings and decorative napkin folding

  • Serving dinner guests and bussing tables

  • Hard-surface floor care and caring for carpeted floors

  • Housekeeping techniques in the servicing of hotel/motel guest rooms and bathrooms, such as sanitizing surfaces, cleaning mirrors and windows, dusting furniture, stripping and making beds, and vacuuming carpet

  • Employability skills, such as job seeking skills and job retention skills

  • Economics and personal money management

  • Time management skills

In this program, students will have the opportunity to job shadow at an area nursing facility during the last grading period and get on-the-job experience. After completing a year or two in the HFC program, the student can then advance to the Basic Food Service and Culinary Programs for the remainder of their stay at the CTC.

The HFC students are members of the career and technical student organization, FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America). As members of this organization, the students are eligible to compete in the following local, regional, and state skill event competitions:

  • Dining Room Attendant

  • Guestroom Attendant / Inspector

  • Hotel Linen Operations / Inventory

  • Meeting Event Set-Up

Students excelling in the program are eligible to attend the FCCLA State Conference in Columbus in April and stay overnight in a nice hotel. They also participate in some community service activities, such as preparing luminaries for the Jingle Bell Parade and Christmas caroling at area nursing facilities. Some field trips enjoyed by HFC students are attending the Gordon Food Show in Columbus, Bob Evans Farm Festival, COSI, Columbus Zoo, etc.

With the skills developed in this program, students can seek employment in hotels, motels, restaurants, hospitals, nursing facilities, schools, private homes, resorts, theme parks, and cruise ships to name a few. They are also building life skills for now and the future.
