Firefighter Training

Students must be sponsored by a fire department to gain entry into the Firefighter Training programs. The Firefighter programs listed below should not be taken for occupational training for employment. 

 

 

Program: Volunteer Firefighter

[Non-Occupational Training Program]

Description: Volunteer Firefighters are required to complete this 36-hour basic course. Successful completion will allow the student to sit for the examination to be a certified Ohio Volunteer Firefighter.

Program is only available to students sponsored by a fire department.

This program will allow an individual to volunteer at a local fire department. It is not intended to be or should be taken for the purposes of occupational training for employment.

Total Hours: 36

Schedule: 

Saturday January 13, Sunday January 14

&

Saturday January 20, Sunday January  21

Time: 8am - 8pm

Tuition: $450

Books: $125

Total: $575

Uniforms and Supplies: Must be sponsored and outfitted with the proper equipment from a fire department.

Financial Assistance: Not eligible for federal financial aid, fire departments

Required Deposit: None

Pre-Entrance Assessment: None

Required Score: None

Tech Requirements: None

Admission Requirements: High School Diploma or Equivalent - unless 17 years of age and enrolled in senior year, meet eligibility of state of Ohio ORC/OAC relevant laws.

Program: Firefighter I Transition

[Non-Occupational Training Program]

Description: This transition course is designed for certified Volunteer Firefighters to upgrade to the Firefighter, Level I Certificate. Successful completion of this course will allow the student to sit for examination to be a certified Firefighter, Level I in Ohio.

Program is only available to students sponsored by a fire department.

This program will allow an individual to volunteer at a local fire department. It is not intended to be or should be taken for the purposes of occupational training for employment.

Total Hours: 124

Orientation: March 5, 2024

Schedule: Tuesday & Thursday / 6pm-10pm

Sundays: 3-17, 3-24, 4-7, 4-21, & 4-28 / Saturday 5-18 
[Weekend times are 8am-4pm]

Tuition: $975

Books: $125

Total: $1100

Uniforms and Supplies: Must be sponsored and outfitted with the proper equipment from a fire department.

Program: Firefighter II Transition

[Non-Occupational Training Program]

Description: This transition course is designed for certified Firefighter I to upgrade to the Firefighter, Level II Certificate. Successful completion of this course will allow the student to sit for examination to be a certified Firefighter, Level II in Ohio.

Program is only available to students sponsored by a fire department.

This program will allow an individual to volunteer at a local fire department. It is not intended to be or should be taken for the purposes of occupational training for employment.

Orientation - January 29, 2024

Schedule: Monday & Wednesday / 6pm-10pm

Saturdays: 2-17, 3-2, 3-9, 3-16, 3-23 & 3-30
[Saturday times are 8am-4pm]

Program: Fire Safety Inspector
[Non-Occupational Training Program]
Description:   This program is designed to provide firefighters with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to conduct fire and life safety inspections in Ohio. 
Successful completion of this program is required to be eligible to sit for the state examination to be certified as an Ohio Fire Safety Inspector.

Ohio Emergency Vehicle Operations Course
[Non-Occupational Program]
Course is designed to enhance safe vehicle operation by stressing theory and principles of defensive driving in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
